Who
Hi,
Welcome to my website.
Please let me introduce myself to you. My name is
Mike Louagie. I was born in Oostende, Belgium, in 1961.
From the age of 15, photography has been one of my
main hobbies, and as a result of this enthusiasm, I
decided to study photography at the Sint Lukas art
school in Brussels.
Oostende has always been a seaside resort and an
important ferry port. As a young local boy it was quite
natural for me to go sailing, and for many years I
cruised along England's south coast during my summer
holidays. On these voyages I started taking pictures of
ships and the sea. Many of these photographs were used
for schoolwork and quite often my teachers asked me: "Oh
no, not pictures of the sea AGAIN?"
When I decided after 4 years of high school to go
free-lance I thought it would be great if I could
combine my 2 passions: photography and shipping.
My first major assignment was for the Oostende-Dover
ferry line, and in particular the introduction of the
jumbo ferry PRINS FILIP.
Another lucky break was my debut with Shippax
Information, Sweden (www.shippax.se). Their publications
are based upon creative and high quality photography.
The artistic view of publisher Klas Brogren and his
willingness to invest in quality pictures has been a
major motivation.
During the past 15 years I have enjoyed working for
many famous companies in shipping, travelling all over
the world.
My photography also involves architectural and
commercial photography on location.
Being a photographer is a great job. I always try to
put my heart and soul in my work, because this is
definitely the only way to make great pics! |
